How Long Does New Turf Take to Establish?

In most cases, freshly laid turf begins rooting within 10–14 days, with full establishment taking around 4–6 weeks depending on weather conditions. Consistent watering during the first two weeks is essential. Turf should be watered thoroughly immediately after installation and kept moist (but not waterlogged) until roots bond with the soil beneath.
You can gently test root development by lifting a corner—if there is resistance, roots are forming successfully.
Heavy foot traffic should be avoided for at least three to four weeks. The first mow typically occurs once the grass reaches around 5–7cm in height, using sharp mower blades and removing only the top third of growth.
Proper aftercare during the first month determines long-term lawn quality. With professional installation and consistent watering, a new lawn will quickly become lush, green, and durable.
